Entry #1: Get to Know Me
“Hi my name is Lila, and my favorite color is pink!”
If you’ve ever taken a class from me, I guarantee I’ve led with something of the sort. I’ve been teaching dance and setting choreography for dance studios and competition teams since I was a sophomore in high school, and I feel like I’ve learned so much since starting at such a young age. My goal in creating this blog is to share some of that, and myself, with anyone reading this! There can be so much judgment and gatekeeping of information within the dance world, and I think that’s so silly! There’s enough jobs to go around for all of us, so why not share what I’ve learned and felt along the way?! In an industry that can be so competitive and dividing, I think cultivating community is so important. My hope through my writing is to break down some of these walls and bring people together <3
So, Hi! My name is Lila, and my favorite color is pink. I’m 22 years old (although I often feel like I’m still 16) and I’ve been dancing for 14 years and teaching for the past 6. I was such a shy kid, and dancing, along with some pretty amazing dance teachers, really inspired me to come out of my shell and build confidence. My goal is to be that cheerleader for anyone in my class! Currently I’m in my fourth year at the College of Charleston and am majoring in elementary education and minoring in dance. Ultimately, I think it would be so cool to teach dance in an elementary school, but at this point, I’m open to any post-grad job I can get! I truly have a heart for dance education – I think that our youth are going to make this world a better place, so it’s our job to give them the encouragement, freedom, and nurturing atmosphere they deserve.
I plan on tackling a variety of topics through this blog, both related and unrelated to dance, and I welcome you to stick around for all that’s to come :) For now, here’s a few “fun” facts asked by some IG followers to get to know me a little bit better…
Favorite TV Shows: Grey’s Anatomy & New Girl
Celebrity You’d Love to Meet: Omg Taylor Swift… big swiftie over here!
My Favorite Subject in School: Definitely English (too many crying at the kitchen table over math homework with dad moments) and I’ve found I love teaching ELA to elementary schoolers
Most Embarrassing Dance Story: I feel like I embarrass myself on a daily basis, but my self-choreographed solo junior year of highschool was actually awful, and you’ll never see a video of it… ever!
Besides Dance, I Enjoy: Hanging out with my friends (sunny days in charleston are the very best), working out, trying new restaurants, playing pickleball (I’m really trying to get better lol), and getting involved in local ministry work.
Favorite Place You’ve Traveled: My family and I have been to Jamaica several times, and those trips are always so much fun and filled with the best memories!!
Pets?: I have 2 dogs, Hazel and Luna, and they’re my little besties. Love them the most!
